S&S Activewear Opens Largest-Ever Facility In Reno
S&S Activewear (PPAI 256121) has opened an 800,000-square-foot distribution center in Reno, Nevada. The new center is the Bolingbrook, Illinois-based supplier’s largest fulfillment facility—nearly three times larger than the company’s Santa Fe Springs building in California—as well as the largest lease of its kind in Nevada state history.
S&S Activewear chose Reno as the site of its largest facility to-date for several strategic, customer-focused reasons including quick coast-to-coast delivery and the ability to offer a larger and more diverse product inventory on the West Coast. Reno also enables S&S to reach the entire West Coast—including all of California, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington—with one-day ship times.
“Perhaps most significantly, though, our quest to bring one-day shipping across the country is now a reality,” says Frank Myers, COO at S&S Activewear. “We’ve been growing since 1989, with expansions to California, New Jersey, Kansas, Texas and Georgia. Our Reno location is by far our biggest yet—representing S&S on the West Coast on a scale our industry hasn’t seen to this point with far more ready-to-ship, fresh new styles than our competitors.”
S&S’s new distribution center, which will employ about 350 people, is in North Valleys Commerce Center, located at 9550 N. Virginia St., Building D, Reno, Nevada, 89506. The building also features a solar power generation system to help minimize the company’s carbon footprint —one of S&S’s ongoing priorities.
“The new space was developed with people and the planet in mind,” Myers adds. “The facility location offers a fantastic quality of life for S&S employees, with favorable costs of living and access to desirable schools and national parks, including Tahoe National Forest.”
Looking ahead, S&S will expand its footprint in Illinois to 750,000 square feet, as it moves its current Bolingbrook facility to a new building in Lockport, Illinois, later in the year. “This will bring our total square feet across the country to more than four million,” Myers says, adding that S&S also consolidated its California warehouse into a new facility and relocated its California call center operations to Tempe, Arizona.
