Usually legislators host town halls and invite the constituents to attend, but the Arizona Promotional Products Association (AZPPA) flipped that model on its head this summer. Julia Wright, MAS, working with the AZPPA Board of Directors, invited legislators at both the federal and local levels to attend the Town Hall event in conjunction with the AZPPA expo. In attendance were Michael Jameson, business and commerce liaison for Congressman Trent Franks, and Colin Tetreault, senior policy advisor, sustainability with Phoenix Mayor Stanton’s office.
The association’s invited guests watched the Town Hall presentation by Paul Bellantone, CAE, president and CEO of PPAI, which stressed the strength and growth of our industry as well as gave an overview of our legislative and product safety efforts. Afterwards Jameson and Tetreault were able to speak with industry professionals from the audience. It wrapped up with an escorted tour of the AZPPA Expo show floor where its guests were introduced to a number of Arizona-based suppliers.
The legislative staff members left the show knowing much more about the vibrant promotional products industry as well as with a good understanding of its legislative issues, including the use of Independent contractors. As a result of this meeting, AZPPA representatives have been invited to have a personal audience with Congressman Trent Franks later this fall.
