Advocate For The Industry During The Congressional August Recess

Both houses of the U.S. Congress go on recess on August 6. Members of Congress spend this time at home in their districts connecting with constituents. Aside from the industry’s trip to D.C. in the spring as part of PPAI L.E.A.D., this is the single best opportunity for the industry to meet with members of Congress and educate them about the power of promotional products and the strength of the industry across the nation.

There are many easy ways industry professionals can connect with members of Congress during the upcoming recess:

  1. Schedule a meeting at the legislator’s district office
  2. Invite the legislator to tour a local factory
  3. Attend local town-hall meetings arranged by the legislator

PPAI makes scheduling and attending a meeting with a member of Congress easy with simple steps outlined online here.

To learn more about how to schedule a meeting and the issues to discuss, industry advocates should plan to attend an Advocacy Webinar on Thursday, July 12, at 1 pm CST. Registration is available online here.

PPAI has also issued a challenge to regional associations, encouraging them to get involved during the 2012 August recess. The regional association whose membership attends the most meetings with members of Congress—such as hosting facility tours for federal or state members of Congress, district office meetings of federal or state members of Congress, meetings held as part of state capital tour days, and attending a federal or state member of Congress’ town hall meeting, among others—will win travel vouchers for L.E.A.D. 2013. More information on the competition is available here.
