Markham, Ontario-based supplier St Regis Group (PPAI 230188, Platinum) is celebrating Earth Day by releasing its 2023 Impact Report.

The 33-page document breaks down the firm’s four-pillar approach to corporate social responsibility:

  • responsible business practices
  • human rights and well-being priority
  • environmental assessment
  • environmental action

“These four pillars form the foundation of our sustainability strategy and reflect our commitment to conducting business in a way that is ethical, socially responsible, and environmentally sustainable,” the company says.

Here are four takeaways from the report.

1. Conducting Business Ethically And Transparently

St Regis has integrated its sustainability program with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that its initiatives are aligned with internationally recognized solutions aimed at safeguarding both the planet and its people. The firm also conducts regular testing and inspections to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Testing reports can be downloaded from the company website under the “compliance documents” tab or reach out to compliance@stregisgrp.com to request copies.

In addition to not intentionally adding PFAS chemicals to products or coatings, St Regis tests all at-risk products using California’s reporting limits.

  1. Giving Back

In 2023, St Regis had its biggest Community Care Kit event to date, filling 400 backpacks with essential school items and a handwritten inspirational message and donating them to organizations supporting underprivileged youth in Toronto. Additionally, the firm gives thousands of in-kind donations to community partners each year.

  1. Reducing Carbon Footprint

St Regis is currently in the planning phase of exploring a net zero operations target to significantly reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 operational emissions without the use of carbon offsets (or less than 10% of a total reduction plan). The company is working toward a net zero operations roadmap, or at minimum, a target in line with the Science Based Targets Initiative.

  1. Environmental Management System

St Regis has developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) that addresses energy consumption, carbon emissions, resource use, waste generation, water usage and air quality. As part of the EMS, the company is currently collaborating with energy experts on selecting the most effective and achievable reduction projects for its facilities.

  • In 2023, the Markham facility completed its first major retrofit: replacing all fluorescent lighting with 830 energy efficient LED lights, a reduction of over 250,000 kWh annual electricity usage.

In its 2022 Impact Report, St Regis set a target to grow its eco collection by over 20% by 2024 – the company has announced that the collection grew by 40% last year and 85% since 2022.

The company has also made progress with sustainable packaging, converting its trademark black boxes to being made with 100% recycled content.
