Seth Godin Spends An Hour—And More—With PPAI’s Bellantone

Not everyone knows who marketer and blog master Seth Godin is (and he likes it that way) but those who do, listen. They really listen to what he says—and they listen a lot.

Godin’s goal is not to have millions of fans. “It’s an intentional act on my part,” he told PPAI President and CEO Paul Bellantone, CAE, Thursday during a live Advertising Week interview, “An Hour With Seth Godin,” at the Hard Rock Café in New York City.

He’s not out to reach the masses and the reason is simple: mediocrity. “Don’t dumb it down, don’t look for clicks, don’t count how many Twitter followers you have, don’t figure out how to make average stuff for average people,” he warned. “There is one path that has been trodden in our culture and that is to get lots of people. The other path is to choose to matter. It’s almost impossible to do both at the same time.”

The pair spoke on stage for nearly an hour to about 350 advertising professionals while the session was streamed live to listeners across the country. Afterwards Godin and Bellantone spoke with other media outlets including iHeart Media, WebMD and Huffington Post.
