This week, PPAI hosted members of the Association’s Product Responsibility Action Group (PRAG) and invited experts to discuss California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, more commonly known as Prop 65. Participants discussed the latest updates to Prop 65, how it affects the industry and how best to educate and update promotional products companies so that they stay in compliance with its regulations.

"The Prop 65 Workshop is intended to bring together many of our industry's top compliance specialists to analyze, simplify and prepare best practices for suppliers and distributors in managing their risk in light of recent changes to California Proposition 65,” says Leeton Lee, founder of consulting firm ComplyBox and a member of PRAG.

On August 30, 2018, numerous important labeling and notification requirements will become effective; the workshop helped prepare members for those changes. “The two-day ‘mini-summit’ at PPAI headquarters further enhanced our educational support to the promotional products industry in protecting our members' and their customers' brands from reputational harm and potential costly violations," adds Lee.

PPAI staff and PRAG will draw on the workshop’s findings over the coming weeks to develop the Association’s Prop 65 education and outreach materials.
