Teddie Story, CEO at Irving Cares, a local United Way agency, visited PPAI headquarters Today to honor PPAI as winner of the Irving Cares Summer Squeeze Challenge. She noted that PPAI donated the most money and/or food to the nonprofit between March 1 and April 30. During that period, PPAI employees contributed a record 10,154 pounds of food and more than $500 in cash. The food donation weighed 5,873 pounds more than last year’s donation and 4,558 pounds more than the Association’s biggest collection year in 2010. The PPAI Community Services Committee, an internal group that coordinates the Association staff’s many outreach efforts, spearheaded the project. The PPAI staff has supported Irving Cares for many years through food drives, cash donations and on-site volunteer efforts.

Irving Cares provides Irving residents with temporary assistance and training to promote self-sufficiency including food pantry access, financial assistance, patient transportation, psychotherapy counseling, employment services and medical prescription discounts.
