Worldwide spending on paid media is expected to reach $584.14 billion in 2017, reports digital marketing researchers eMarketer, and by 2021, annual advertising spending should stand at $757.44 billion, driven for the most part by advertisers’ investments in mobile formats. Over the course of its forecast, eMarketer expects ad spending growth rates of between 4.9 percent and 8.3 percent.

eMarketer also anticipates North America to stay as the top advertising market through 2021, with growth of 5.2 percent in 2017. While behind the global growth rate of seven percent in 2017, the North American market is more established than most regions. Looking ahead, North America’s growth rate should remain healthy, with a noticeable bump in 2020 due to the U.S. presidential elections and Summer Olympics.

Abroad, Argentina, China, India, Indonesia and Ireland are expected to report the fastest ad spending growth rate in 2017, while Finland, France, Hong Kong and Singapore will turn in the slowest. eMarketer also forecasts that in 2019, rapid digital ad growth in India and China will push the Asia-Pacific region’s total spending ahead of North America.
