The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Polaris have issued a recall for the model year 2015 and 2016 Sportsman 850 and 1000 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) for burn and fire hazards. The ATVs are sold in the promotional products market by supplier Incentive Concepts.

The recall affects about 19,200 vehicles that were sold from May 2014 through March 2017. Polaris and the CPSC have received reports of the right-side panel heat shield melting, posing burn and fire hazards to riders. In addition, on the 2015 Sportsman 1000 ATVs, the exhaust springs can stretch and damage the exhaust seal, which can result in exhaust leaks and pose burn and fire hazards.

Polaris has received reports of at least 793 incidents, including reports of warped, melted or burned side panels, 47 fires and four minor burn injuries. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled ATVs and contact Polaris to schedule a free repair. Polaris is contacting all known purchasers directly.

While Polaris will contact recipients of the ATVs, distributors with questions can contact Incentive Concepts at 1-888-862-9283. Polaris can be contacted at 800-765-2747 or online at www.polaris.com and click on “Off-Road Safety Recalls” for more information.
