Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Chairman Elliot Kaye will be joining the PPAI Product Responsibility Summit later this month in Bethesda, Maryland. Kaye will address Summit attendees on Wednesday, September 30, as the luncheon speaker. Kaye became the CPSC’s 10th chairman in 2014, and his term will expire in October 2020.

“PPAI is honored to have this opportunity to host Chairman Kaye and to demonstrate in-person our industry's long-standing commitment to product safety and compliance,” says Rick Brenner, MAS+, PPAI Board Chair.

From 2013 to his confirmation, Kaye served as the CPSC’s executive director. Prior to that, he served as chief of staff and chief counsel to former Chairman Inez Moore Tenenbaum in 2013, deputy chief of staff and senior counsel to the chairman from 2012 to 2013, and as senior counsel to the chairman from 2010 to 2012. During his tenure with the CPSC, he has played a significant role in a number of the commission’s initiatives, including its efforts to address the chemical burn hazard to young children from the ingestion of coin cell batteries, and coalescing organizations and companies in American football around the goal of creating a culture change to reduce the risk of brain injuries in youth football.

Prior to joining the CPSC, Kaye was an attorney at Hogan Lovells. His career history also includes serving as an attorney at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP and as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Sterling Johnson, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He served as chief of staff and legislative director for U.S. Representative John Tierney, chief of staff and communications director for U.S. Representative Pat Danner, and held a number of positions with U.S. Representative Earl Hutto. Kaye received a B.S.J. from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.

The 2015 PPAI Product Responsibility Summit, September 28-30, includes a tour of the CPSC’s labs and two days of education featuring distinguished speakers, industry thought leaders and representatives from product safety labs and product certification groups.
