The Wider Consequences Of A West Coast Port Shutdown

In May 2014, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) entered into negotiations for a new contract for the 13,600 dockworkers the ILWU represented at ports stretching from San Diego, California, to Bellingham, Washington. The Value Of Education

PPAI is offering an extensive lineup of Product Safety Awareness program courses at The PPAI Expo 2015, both as part of the show’s education schedule and on the show floor for exhibitors. The program is designed to foster an industry-wide commitment and culture where companies are not only aware of product safety, but engaged in the discussion, and it requires every member company wanting to gain access to the PPAI marketplace—as a sponsor, advertiser, trade-show exhibitor, etc.—to complete a minimum of four hours of product safety education no later than the start of Expo East 2015 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Lessons From A Labor Dispute

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) spent much of 2014 in protracted negotiations over labor contracts at West Coast ports. PPAI joined 103 other organizations in a letter sent to the ILWU and PMA, the mayors of Los Angeles and Long Beach, and the executive directors at both ports, calling for the two sides to come to an agreement.
