geiger-facilityGeiger (UPIC: geiger) is converting its former manufacturing facility in Lewiston, Maine, into a 105,000-square-foot office and distribution space. When completed next year, the $12 million project will house the distributor’s 225 headquarters employees and provide space to accommodate 25-50 new hires over the next three to five years, and it will feature one of the state’s largest private solar arrays as depicted in the artist's rendering above.

Gene Geiger, MAS+, CEO, says, “We could be based anywhere in the U.S., but we have been a proud citizen of Lewiston-Auburn, trying our best to make this a better place for over the past 61 years.”

The company is working with a number of local partners on the project, including Auburn, Maine-based architectural firm Harriman and Hebert Construction of Lewiston. Geiger says that the facility will be certified at the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design’s “gold” level and will qualify as a Maine Advanced Building. ReVision Energy of Portland will be installing 620 ground-mounted solar panels that will eliminate more than eight million pounds of carbon pollution over the 40-year useful lifespan of the solar array. The company expects the system to provide as much as 90 percent of the energy needs of its new offices.
