At The PPAI Expo 2012, PPAI will present the inaugural H. Ted Olson Humanitarian Award to Margie Price, MAS. Introduced at the beginning of 2011, the award honors volunteerism in the promotional products industry. Named after H. Ted Olson, MAS, president emeritus of PPAI, who passed away in April 2010, it represents what Olsen stood for—volunteerism in and outside the promotional products industry.
“Margie Price has to be recognized as a preeminent organizer and fundraiser who just happens to work in our industry, for a wide range of causes and with a variety of techniques and approaches,” says Steve Slagle, CAE, past president and CEO of PPAI. “She has devoted her adult life to volunteering for worthy causes with numerous charitable organizations, and she typically serves several of them at the same time. She not only gives willingly of her own money, but more importantly, she has contributed countless hours of her time to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the fight against cancer, for head injury research and care, and for college scholarships, to name a few. She is renowned in her home city of St. Louis as one who cares deeply about the welfare of others and is willing to put her time and energy behind efforts to really make a difference in her city and community.”
The H. Ted Olson Humanitarian Award recognizes industry professionals who have shown a commitment through leadership and volunteer activities to PPAI and regional associations, to the PPEF and other educational programs or trusts, nonprofits and charitable organizations, and civic or community programs and organizations. Price has been involved at all of these levels.
Price, president of Premium Plus, Inc. (UPIC: PREMPLUS), has been an active member of PPAI for 21 years. And in that time, she has shown broad and deep commitment to the industry and the Association. Among her contributions to PPAI are a term on the Board of Directors in 2005-2009 and service on a number of its committees, including terms as chair of the End Buyer Task Force in 2006, the Governance Task Force in 2008, the Women’s Leadership Conference Committee in 2008-2009, and subcommittees of the Leadership Advisory Committee in 2010-2011.
She served as chair of the Promotional Products Education Foundation (PPEF) in 2004 and advocated for the formation of the first PPAI Women’s Leadership Conference in 2005, chaired the event in 2008 and 2009. She continued to serve in an advisory capacity in 2010.
Price has also been extremely active at the regional level, serving on the Promotional Products Association of the Midwest (PPAM) board in 1995-2004 and holding the office of PPAM president in 1997-1998. She played an integral part in development of the Regional Association Council (RAC), helping author the RAC’s bylaws and represented PPAM as its RAC Delegate in 1998-2003. Price was the RAC Delegate to the PPAI board in 2001-2003.
Outside of the promotional products industry, Price has been involved in numerous local and charitable organizations. Stand out among them was her term, spanning from 1977-1985, as a member of the St. Louis Men’s Group Against Cancer committee. She has served as the group’s executive director since 1985. She also founded the AMC Cancer Research Center’s “AMC Women’s Event” in 1987 and chaired it in 1987-1988. Other boards she has served on include the St. Louis Sports Commission, the Center for Head Injury Services, and the local boards of the Children’s Miracle Network and the American Cancer Society.
Price was honored in July with the PPAI Woman Of Achievement Award and has also been selected to receive the PPAI 2012 Distinguished Service Award to be presented during The PPAI Expo in January.
A $500 donation will be made in the name of the recipient to the charitable organization of the recipient’s choice. Price has chosen the St. Louis Men’s Group Against Cancer to receive the donation. The commemorative trophy is sponsored by Celina, Ohio-based Visions/Awardcraft (UPIC: VISIONS).
The H. Ted Olson Humanitarian Award and Distinguished Service Award presentation will take place at the Chairman’s Leadership Dinner on January 5 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm during The PPAI Expo in Las Vegas.
