Anne Marie Buerkle has been nominated by President Trump to serve as chair of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. A current commissioner of the CPSC, Buerkle has been serving as acting chair of the commission since February.

If confirmed by the Senate, she will begin a new seven-year term on October 27. Buerkle was appointed to the CPSC by President Obama in 2013. She was the keynote speaker at PPAI’s Product Responsibility Summit in 2015.

“I am honored that the President intends to nominate me to be Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,” says Buerkle. “Since joining CPSC in 2013 I have been actively involved in protecting consumers in collaboration with my colleagues, the dedicated staff and all stakeholders from the product safety community. I look forward to continuing that work and, if Senate confirmed, to the opportunity to serve as Chairman of this valuable agency.”

A former U.S. House Representative, Buerkle represented New York’s 25th Congressional District in 2011-2012. During her time in Congress, she served as a United States Representative to the 66th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations from 2011 to 2012. From 1997 to 2009, Buerkle was an assistant attorney general for the state of New York and earlier in her career, practiced law in a private firm. Before her legal career, Buerkle worked as a registered nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
