pantone-color-of-the-year-2017Pantone has named PANTONE shade 15-0343, Greenery, its 2017 Color Of The Year. A yellow-green shade, Pantone says Greenery “evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew” and that it is “illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors.” Greenery follows the 2016 Color of the Year 2016 duo, PANTONE 13-1520, Rose Quartz, a warm rose tone, and PANTONE 15-3919, Serenity, a cool blue.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says, “While Serenity and Rose Quartz expressed the need for harmony in a chaotic world. Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

“The tangy yellow-green speaks to our desire to express, explore, experiment and reinvent, imparting a sense of buoyancy,” says Eiseman. “Through its reassuring yet assertive vibrancy, Greenery offers us self-assurance and boldness to live life on our own terms, during a time when we are redefining what makes us successful and happy.”

Pantone has also partnered with Airbnb, a community marketplace that provides access to unique accommodations and experiences around the globe, to bring what it describes as Greenery’s spirit of “reconnection, exploration and belonging” alive in an experience in early 2017.

Pantone’s color of the year selection is based on a number of influences, including the entertainment industry and films, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socioeconomic conditions. The company says influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that influence color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention. The color selected as the Pantone Color of the Year 2017 was taken from the PANTONE Fashion, Home + Interiors Color System.
