Become A Preferred Employer

This week, Promotional Consultant Today has shared insight into PPAI’s Strategic Plan and its goals that will serve as guideposts for the next three years. Not only do these goals strengthen the effectiveness of the premier promotional products organization, they are positioned to support you in growing a strong and healthy bottom line for your business.

So far, PCT has shared three goals this week: Deliver Great Customer Value, Advocate for the Industry and Engage in a Global Marketplace. Today we wrap up the series with PPAI’s fourth and final goal: Manage an efficient, progressive and professional organization.

One element of creating and maintaining such an organization relies on attracting top talent to the ranks. As the economy rebounds and strengthens, companies and organizations of all sizes are experiencing unprecedented levels of employee turnover. Employees who have been waiting for a good time to head for the “greener grass” are seeing lots of opportunity to switch employers. How do you keep employees from jumping ship? Here are some tips on becoming a preferred employer as summarized from Entrepreneur magazine:

Emphasize your employees’ value to the organization. Let them know, on an ongoing basis, how important they are to the company’s overall success.

Show them your appreciation. It will encourage their loyalty and motivate them to continue their high performance.

Be sure your team members have the resources and support they need. Find out what they need to perform at their best and do your best to provide it.

Reward employees—but not just with money. Rewards can include plum assignments and other perks to keep them motivated.

Give credit when due and accept the blame for failure. Good leaders spread the credit around when the company is successful and take the blame when things don’t go so well.

Help employees see they are making a difference. This is easier in a small company where daily efforts add up quickly.

It takes the time and talent of many individuals to manage a progressive, professional organization that focuses on advancing its goals and serving an industry as dynamic and diverse as the promotional products industry. PPAI is doing its part with the adoption of its 2012-2015 Strategic Plan which includes the four goals shared in PCT this week. Learn more about the PPAI Strategic Plan here.
