Molenaar Issues Recall On Folding Step Stools

Supplier Molenaar LLC (UPIC: MILINE) of Willmar, Minnesota, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a voluntary recall today for about 3,700 folding step stools.

“We proactively set this recall in motion in mid-May,” says Steven Meyer, MAS, vice president of sales for Molenaar. “This recall started with the notification of a very similar retail product that made us test to higher standards and, at that point, we contacted the CPSC and started the voluntary recall. We’ve been in contact with every distributor who requested a sample and everyone who placed an order and provided them all with a means of returning the stools to the company.”

While no incidents or injuries have been reported, the folding step stools can break or collapse unexpectedly while in use. The 13-inch-tall plastic folding stools feature a single step and are beige with brown tops. Distributed for free by various companies as a promotional product between March 2012 and May 2012, the Chinese-manufactured stools have company logos imprinted on the side panel beneath the top of the stool.

The CPSC states that consumers should immediately stop using the stools and return them to the businesses printed on them to receive a different promotional item. Businesses that have purchased the stools from Molenaar should return them for a refund or credit. For more information, contact Molenaar at 877-719-4442 between 8 am and 4:30 pm CDT, Monday through Friday, or visit their website at www.miline.com.
