CPSC Considers Authorization Of Convenient, Quick HDXRF Testing For Lead In Children’s Products
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has published for public comment a Lab Accreditation Rule—formal requirements necessary for labs to be recognized by the CPSC to conduct testing on children’s products—that considers the authorization a new test method, high-definition x-ray fluorescence (HDXRF), to measure lead in various materials.
Authorization of HDXRF offers attractive advantages over other testing methodologies. It allows children’s products manufacturers, importers, retailers and labs to conduct non-destructive testing of samples, is quick, and can be conducted with minimal equipment, training or preparation. HDXRF testing can also be conducted outside of the laboratory environment, opening the door to testing in factories, warehouses or offices.
