Act Now To Protect Industry Access To Government Experts

PPAI programs give industry members the opportunity to engage in dialogue with experts from government agencies including the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Reserve System, Small Business Administration and the Department of Commerce.

Amendments to two bills pending in Congress would severely limit federal employees’ attendance at PPAI meetings and conferences—limiting PPAI members’ access to expert guidance on product safety, going green, securing credit and identifying international trade opportunities.

PPAI needs member help in educating Congress on how these amendments could impact the quality of the PPAI programs the industry relies on to drive results. Industry professionals should:

• Click “Protect My Access To Experts” and follow the prompts to ask their member of Congress (MOC) to propose revisions to the amendments being considered in Congress.

• Encourage others to follow their example by spreading the message through social media channels—PPAI has even provided relevant posts.

• Schedule a meeting with their MOC to discuss this issue or invite their MOC to tour their factory. PPAI can help arrange any of this at ppailaw@ppai.org.

While the intent of these amendments is to prevent wasteful spending on government-sponsored conferences, an effort PPAI supports, the way the amendments are written would prevent many federal employees from attending and participating in nonprofit conferences.
