Loading ...Suppliers Warned To Watch For Scammers
Promotional products suppliers are urged to be on alert for scammers using stolen credit cards to place orders.
Stephen Peters, president of Green Lane, Pennsylvania-based supplier Emperor Marketing (UPIC: MARKAINO), alerted PPAI after receiving a fraudulent purchase order from a company called CT Private Store. The scammer said he was a PPAI member and used a fake UPIC.
Peters charged the credit card, and two days later, he received a call from the card’s owner claiming the charges were fraudulent. An unusual twist is that the card holder sounded like he was in on it—he was calm and matter of fact, Peters says. Fortunately, the order wasn’t shipped, and Peters suffered no losses.
