PPAI Better Equips Industry Advocates With Updated Little Black Book Of Legislative Success

PPAI’s Little Black Book of Legislative Success is a valuable tool for those advocating on behalf of the industry, arming them with the information they need to have meaningful, effective conversations with politicians and their staffs. Inside, it offers a wealth of statistics about the promotional products industry at state and federal levels, guides to contacting political officials during different legislative sessions, and strategies on how to effectively address politicians and their staffs. The book also includes direction to other online advocacy resources.

“This book was designed to help make it easy for you to have effective and powerful conversations with your elected officials,” says Anne Lardner-Stone, PPAI’s director of public affairs. “Your members of Congress are keenly attuned to the number of voters in a state, the number of companies and the size of the manufacturing base. Having access to those facts will make you better prepared to have conversations that could really make a difference for the promotional products industry.”

The Little Black Book was first launched at PPAI’s 2009 RAC Leadership Development Workshop and has proven popular among promotional products professionals looking to reach out to their elected officials and make the industry’s voice heard. Now, PPAI has launched a new edition featuring an expanded and updated collection of figures and statistics.

In the updated Little Black Book, PPAI has added a number of new data fields to help communicate the breadth and importance of the promotional products industry to political officials. To state and federal data on the annual revenue of promotional products businesses, the total number of companies operating and the number of jobs the industry provides, the new edition adds a revenue breakdown based on distributor and supplier sales volumes and the number of companies identified as small businesses.

PPAI updated the Little Black Book with these new data fields at the requests of members who had taken the original volume out into the field and found ways to improve its effectiveness. The information it contains is based on data reported to PPAI by suppliers and distributors in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
