Barbara Gerlach, MAS, president of Advance Corporation (UPIC: ADVANCE) retired at the end of July after 30 years of service to the company. She will continue to serve in an advisory capacity until December, according to Glen Lorenz, chairman of Advance. At press time, a replacement for Gerlach had not been named.

“Some of the highlights during my career have been being involved in the growth of Advance, the industry relationships that I have made over the years and winning 70 Supplier Achievement Awards!” Gerlach says.

Gerlach also was involved in supporting the industry. In 1995, she served as president of the Upper Midwest Association of Promotional Products (UMAPP) regional association and in 2002 she was elected to serve a four-year term on the PPAI Board of Directors. She was elected to the UMAPP Hall of Fame in 2005.

“Barb has been a tremendous influence on my career,” says Dan Ball, CAS, national accounts manager at Advance. “She is so informationally savvy—she’s a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about the business. She’s been a great mentor to me.”

Gerlach says she plans to enjoy more time with family and friends and to be more active with the local historical society.

“History has always been a passion for me,” she says.
